What a beautiful morning it is here in Lagos, Nigeria, looking out through the window I can see that it’s a bit cloudy, suggesting that it may rain. Uhmmm, talking about rain, it’s one of the major concerns that disturbs the heart of the organizers of any event, in fact my mind is thrown back in time to the LET’S TALK POLIO SEMINAR held in October last year, I woke up to a bright and sunny day, dressed up in my Allen Grey wool flannel trouser whilst trying to meander my upper limbs through the inlet openings on my dark blazer and exit them on the outlet to allow my hands gain their freedom whilst ensuring that the blazer settle well on my body, I adjusted my tie and then finally stuck my End Polio Now pin on my left lapel, I felt sharp and knew that I was set for the day’s occasion, but just before.
Yes, just before I could make the move to step out of my room I heard something that felt like a roar, albeit not of lions but of the clouds, alas it was going to rain cats and dogs, not today of all days, that was the phrase running through my mind, I couldn’t fathom why the rain chose that Thursday to rain considering the amount of work that had gone into putting the event together, but to my amazement the ever indefatigable Rotaractors of our great District didn’t allow the rain to stop them as they thronged the event in their numbers, that day I saw a people so passionate about eradicating Polio in Nigeria, the break out session was awesome, the brainstorming was palpable, I saw great ideas effortlessly generated on how best to celebrate the World Polio Day, I was wowed.
Did I tell you it’s raining already in my part of Lagos, anyways, today am not bothered, we are having a virtual event, we can all log on from our different abodes, yes, I know we all crave for the hugs, the handshakes, I miss them too, but I can assure you that we have packaged the event to simulate the experience you would get from a physical event, it promises to be an interesting one.
Finally, I like to specially appreciate all Rotaractors in our great District, you made The Poliopaedia, a reality, this masterpiece captures your united efforts in putting an end to Polio in Nigeria and beyond. You rock.
As we get set for the event, I encourage you to log on as early as 10:45AM to take care of any technical issue that may arise, exchange pleasantries with people, oh, almost forgot, we will be having a lot of international guests too, truly Rotary connects the world.
